Brenda Montgomery Frey

Died: Oct 3, 22

Maiden: Montgomery

Obit: passed away peacefully at her home on October 3, 2022 surrounded by loved ones and family. She was born November 11, 1949 in Nashville, TN. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. She is survived by her son, Kristopher Sean Frey (Jenn), and stepdaughters Emily Frey Collins (Barry) and Catharine Frey Simpkins along with 7 grandchildren: Kate Frey, Molly Frey, Ryne Collins (Heather), Tyler Collins, Briley Collins Holmes (Andrew), Carter Simpkins, and Clark Simpkins; plus 4 great grandchildren (Scarlett, Mack, Maddox and Collins). She is survived by her mother, Bert Montgomery and sisters Linda Montgomery Boisseau, Judy Diane Montgomery, and Vickie Montgomery (Jim Scott).

She is preceded in death by her father, George H. Montgomery

Brenda was an active baseball mom who spent many hours traveling and supporting Sean’s love of sports. She rarely missed a Notre Dame football game on TV, a love acquired from Sean’s college choice.

Brenda was a talented artist whose God-given talents were displayed through her gardening, painting, decorating, and crafting. She loved taking friends on a tour of her garden and yard as she pointed out each plant variety and often offered her guests a cutting so they could enjoy the flowers as much as she did. She was a proud and active member of the Sumner County Master Gardeners Association for over a decade including serving as co-chair of the major fundraising arm with members painting and crafting for hours under her direction.

Decorating for the holidays was an absolute favorite thing for Brenda whether it was Christmas or Valentine’s Day, Easter or Halloween, St. Patrick’s Day or Independence Day (and any other holiday she could craft). She would enjoy the season with front door decorations along with each room decorated to the top. She also shared her talents through home paint-along classes for over 5 years before COVID limited her social options. Many have a treasure which was a Brenda creation or inspiration.

During her lengthy battle with cancer, Brenda had an amazing care team at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Clinic. A special thank you to her devoted doctors and staff. She was blessed with a devoted friend, Susan Ralph, who took her to treatments, tests, and doctors’ appointments. And the family is thankful to all these caring people.

Visitation will be Friday, October 7th at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Goodlettsville, TN from noon until 2pm with funeral at 2pm officiated by Russ Corley.

Private graveside service will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in White House, TN.

If you want to make a donation in her memory, the family suggests the American Cancer Society, Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Alive Hospice or Sumner County Master Gardeners Association.
